FAQ

Why Colorado State University-Fort Collins?

CSU is one of the top environmental universities in the nation, and I can map my appreciation for the environment all the way back to 5th grade in 2006-7 when I created a recycling system for my household. I chose CSU after taking an environmental class at my local community college.

Why major in Journalism and Media Communications?

I also wanted a major that would make me a strong communicator both verbally and in writing. I decided on Journalism because the major taught a lot of the skills I wanted to learn before going into the workforce including Adobe programs, social media, and web design.

What extracurriculars were you involved with?

Greek life, an extensive amount of volunteer work, and leadership conferences and retreats. I helped to put on and participated in a variety of empowerment workshops for women, men, and youth. For my spring breaks, I spent one in Cuba focusing on comparative politics and sustainability. For another, I went to Chicago, IL engaging in youth empowerment through education, self-awareness, and creative expression.

Within a month of graduating, I reached out to my previous employer to see if they'd be willing to let me occupy their vacant retail space for an Art Social. After hearing a yes, the event came to be Uncommon's most successful resident event with the highest community engagement and retention. I list this as an extracurricular because I coordinated everything for the event by myself unpaid.

For fun, I enjoy painting, reading, archery, hiking, paddle boarding, and playing volleyball. I like to try things that throw me out of my comfort zone and challenge the way I think. I am currently teaching myself how to play the piano and how to speak, read and write Korean and Spanish.
